Vigil for Ricky

Harefield Gazette - - NEWS -

WEST DRAYTON: Family and friends of Ricky Reel were due to hold a vigil outside New Scotland Yard yesterday (Tuesday) on the anniversary his body was found.

Ricky’s mother, Sukhdev, planned to join Hayes and Harlington MP John McDonnell, along with campaigners who are calling for an inquiry into the death of the former Brunel University student for the vigil from 5.30-7.30pm, after the Gazette went to press.

In July, Mrs Reel, who lives in West Drayton, told the BBC she had been informed by senior officers that members of the Met Police Special Demonstration Squad had been spying on her.

More than 77,000 people have signed a petition organised by Change.org calling for an inquiry into Ricky’s death.

He was found dead in the River Thames in 1997, aged 20, after a night out in Kingston-upon-Thames when he and friends had been subjected to a racist attack.
