Air­woman ex­hibits her Last Tour work

The Uxbridge Gazette Se­ries AN RAF air­woman has put her ex­pe­ri­ence of serv­ing her coun­try into an ex­hi­bi­tion of photographs and art­work.

Sara Way­mont served in the RAF Aux­il­iary Forces and was de­ployed to Afghanistan ear­lier this year.

Her ex­hi­bi­tion, The Last Tour, also fea­tures in­sight­ful jour­nal en­tries, sketches and paint­ings and is held at the Cow Byre Gal­ley at the Manor Farm site, Ruis­lip.

Hilling­don Coun­cil, which owns and man­ages the gallery, is sup­port­ing the ex­hi­bi­tion, which runs un­til Satur­day.

Coun­cil­lor Dou­glas Mills, cab­i­net mem­ber for com­mu­nity, said: “In the cen­te­nary year of the start of the First World War and in the month of Re­mem­brance Day it is fit­ting that res­i­dents have the chance to gain per­spec­tive on con­tem­po­rary mil­i­tary life at this spe­cial ex­hi­bi­tion.”

En­try to the ex­hi­bi­tion is free, but on Thurs­day, Novem­ber 20, there will be a char­ity re­cep­tion held in the Sta­bles at Manor Farm to raise money for the Royal Bri­tish Le­gion and the RAF Benev­o­lent Fund.

Guests will have the op­por­tu­nity to meet the artist and learn more about her ex­pe­ri­ences in Afghanistan, as well as par­tic­i­pat­ing in a silent auc­tion for her art­works.

After a suc­cess­ful 25-year ca­reer in the Royal Marines, David Lil­burn MBE now takes on ex­treme chal­lenges to raise funds for mil­i­tary char­i­ties. He will also be speak­ing at the event.
