Airwoman exhibits her Last Tour work
The Uxbridge Gazette Series AN RAF airwoman has put her experience of serving her country into an exhibition of photographs and artwork.
Sara Waymont served in the RAF Auxiliary Forces and was deployed to Afghanistan earlier this year.
Her exhibition, The Last Tour, also features insightful journal entries, sketches and paintings and is held at the Cow Byre Galley at the Manor Farm site, Ruislip.
Hillingdon Council, which owns and manages the gallery, is supporting the exhibition, which runs until Saturday.
Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, said: “In the centenary year of the start of the First World War and in the month of Remembrance Day it is fitting that residents have the chance to gain perspective on contemporary military life at this special exhibition.”
Entry to the exhibition is free, but on Thursday, November 20, there will be a charity reception held in the Stables at Manor Farm to raise money for the Royal British Legion and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artist and learn more about her experiences in Afghanistan, as well as participating in a silent auction for her artworks.
After a successful 25-year career in the Royal Marines, David Lilburn MBE now takes on extreme challenges to raise funds for military charities. He will also be speaking at the event.
Tickets for the charity reception cost £5 which includes refreshments and a complimentary glass of wine. Email cbaldwin@ hillingdon.gov.uk or phone 01895 558 199 to book.
