Man was arrested after Armistice Day evacuation in town
A MAN who was arrested on Armistice Day after shoppers were evacuated from Uxbridge town centre has been released on bail. ceremony outside the civic centre across the street.
Alarms and a message over the public address system told shoppers in the shopping centre to evacuate the building.
Some said they were unaware of why they were being told to leave.
Yvonne Janis, 79, from Hayes, was among those shopping when she saw police sniffer dogs.
“People were calm,” she said.
Sandra Jones, 62, of
very Windmill Road, Ruislip Manor, was among the crowd who had gathered outside Hillingdon Civic Centre for the ceremony.
She said: “All the police were here.
“I was waiting to get to my car on my way home when I saw all the police.
“I wouldn’t have thought there would be such a police presence for a fire.” Shoppers were able to re-enter the shopping centre and its car park at around 2pm.
