Model pupils mark First World War cen­te­nary year

CHIL­DREN who have been learn­ing about the First World War held a com­mem­o­ra­tive event to mark its cen­te­nary year – and met a few for­mer pupils too.

Young­sters at Yead­ing Ju­nior School met Alan and Dorothy Roland at the event on Re­mem­brance Day, Novem­ber 11, who both stud­ied at the school in Carlyon Road, Hayes, in the 1930s.

Some of the cur­rent pupils took part in a World War One model mak­ing com­pe­ti­tion and had cre­ated minia­ture trenches, bat­tle­fields and Army tanks.

Oth­ers treated au­di­ence mem­bers, in­clud­ing Mayor of Hilling­don Cather­ine Dann, to per­for­mances and speeches.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tives from Yead­ing Li­brary, in Yead­ing Gar­dens, Hayes, St Ed­mund’s Church, in Ed­munds Close, Hayes, War­ren Park Res­i­dents’ As­so­ci­a­tion, school gover­nors and bor­ough peo­ple also joined the com­mem­o­ra­tive af­ter­noon.
