PC loses common assault appeal
A POLICE officer who punched a suspected shoplifter in the head has been dismissed without notice from the Metropolitan Police Service.
James Kiddie, 45, from Ruislip, was found guilty of common assault in February for the attack on a woman in a Regents Street clothes shop on November 26, 2012.
He was sentenced at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in March to 150 hours of community service and ordered to pay £500 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
The officer, who lived in Warrender Way, appealed against that conviction in April but the judge upheld the magistrate’s findings.
This month, he was dismissed without notice by a gross misconduct board.
Kiddie was caught on CCTV punching a woman in the head in a storeroom at the London branch of Uniqlo.
