Who are the Heathrow majority?

ROB Gray of the Back Heathrow cam­paign claims in his let­ter that 50,000 lo­cal res­i­dents liv­ing around Heathrow are in favour of the ex­pan­sion of Heathrow (‘ Silent majority to get their say at last’, Let­ters, Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 19).

He also claims that there is a clear majority for ex­pan­sion in nine out of 10 par­lia­men­tary con­stituen­cies closes to the air­port.

It is dif­fi­cult to see how he ar­rived at th­ese fig­ures as they are com­pletely at odds with a ref­er­en­dum held by Hilling­don Coun­cil which showed that 53,235 res­i­dents (66 per cent) of those who voted were against ex­pan­sion of the air­port, while only 27,377 (34 per cent) were in favour.
