Trio take medals haul at championships
THREE of Yeading Trenic Taekwon-do Academy’s next generation excelled in their relative age groups at the British UKITF Championships in Crawley last week.
Karen Abou-Abdallah, 11, who won the Irish Championships last month, added the British title to her growing collection of national successes, while Charlie McGregor, 10, also became British champion in the ‘Hyper-Weight’ event.
Coby Esegbona, 10, also performed brilliantly at the K2 Arena, only to miss out on his own British title with a valiant defeat to his Scottish opponent in his final.
Abou-Abdallah starred throughout the competitions’ duration, adding another gold in the ‘special technique’ category and a bronze in the patterns event. The young star outclassed all of her international opponents, including Dutch and Irish competitors, as she notched three medals in a hugely successful week.
McGregor, who had also been in great form in regional contests in recent months, exacted some revenge on a fellow competitor who had beaten him earlier this year on the way to his gold medal in his event.
Esegbona was equally dominant throughout the lead up to his final, despite fighting against much heavier opponents, only to narrowly fall to a split decision defeat in the final.
All three train at the Viking Community Centre in Radcliffe Road, with the Championships attracting 450 competitors over the age of eight from a range of European countries.
