Give fundraising credit where it’s due

Harefield Gazette - - OPINION -

I WAS disappointed that the article in last week’s Gazette did not credit the ‘real’ organisers of this marvellous lunch but instead mentioned various local politicians who seem to appear as if by magic when events like this take place (‘ Senior citizens meal fundraiser’, Gazette, November 19).

It is good that the politicians attend these events, but if it wasn’t for Jackie Westbrook from West Drayton Community Centre, Jean Ball, the fantastic chef who produced some outstanding fare, plus Carl Neilsen and John Davies, from Yiewsley and West Drayton Town Action Group (Y&WDTAG), events like these would never take place.

On the day there was also valued help from the Brunel students, members of Y&WDTAG plus other local organisations.

Our community is proud to put on these events, so in future it would be nice if the Gazette could recognise the people who give their time to organise these events.

Credit where credit’s due please – these people deserve it! JOHN COLEMAN Chantry Close
