Randall’s is not serving any more

Harefield Gazette - - YOUR LETTERS - Aylsham Ickenham Address

IT WAS with great sadness that I read of Randall’s, whose 1891 debut predated Liverpool FC’s birth and not soon after many of the original football league’s team inceptions! [‘Doors set to close for the final time’, Gazette, December 17].

This grand Uxbridge icon in Vine Street strikes a chord with me, as, growing up in Southall, I well remember another wonderful department store, Daniels, which was in Uxbridge Road, West Ealing, and I spent many an afternoon there.

I’m pretty sure the writers of Are You Being Served may have paid a visit to Randall’s, maybe to find some inspiration for their classic TV sitcom. Maybe there was an equivalent ‘Mr Humphries’ or ‘Mrs Slocombe’ in Uxbridge or nearby?

I wonder what the proposed MP-in-waiting for Uxbridge and South Ruislip has to ponder about Randall’s fate? Come on Boris, let’s hear you. MARK BRYCE

Drive charges have no actual basis in law and can be successfully challenged.

PPA has been set up to facilitate the challenges, at a reasonable cost to the consumer.

We’d be grateful if you could let your readers know. DAVID CARROD
