Denham U14s squeeze into county cup final
DENHAM Ladies U14s have a final to look forward to against either QPR or Tottenham in the Middlesex County Cup.
The girls needed extra time to beat league rivals Kinja FC in the semis, but came through that tough test to book their spot in the last two thanks to hat-trick hero Kayleigh Currivan.
Denham were instructed to go for it by their manager and a positive start saw them take an early lead.
With 15 minutes on the clock, Currivan floated a free-kick into the penalty area which Katie Akerman headed home to give them a well-deserved lead.
Although Denham continued to dominate, Kinja levelled the scoring on the stroke of half-time.
The away side started the second half slowly but still came closest to taking the lead when both Charlotte Parrett and Kodi Spencer were denied by the Kinja keeper.
Akerman grabbed her second of the game and regained her side’s lead when she received a short corner from Currivan and drilled the ball against the back post and into the net.
A solid defensive performance saw Denham reduce the home side to few chances but they orchestrated their own downfall as a mix up in defence allowed them to score a simple equaliser.
Denham dominated the extratime period and got the winner they deserved as Akerman claimed her hat-trick. She rose above the rest to head home a Currivan corner and earn her team a place in the final.
