Litterbugs solely to blame for rubbish

Harefield Gazette - - OPINION -

THE local MP for Hayes blames the council for the amount of litter on the streets of Hayes, [but] the litter is caused by dirty people who can’t be bothered to use a bin.

Everywhere I travel in this borough the paths and roads are strewn with rubbish – people will not even pick up when our bin and recycle men have collected, even when it is outside their house.

Since the Rigby Road Recycling Centre was closed there has been a big increase in the amount of fly tipping along Goulds Green Lane, but I do not blame anyone but the dirty people who do it.

Our road cleaners, both on foot and in sweepers, do a very good job against an ever increasing amount of litter and rubbish.

Changing tack slightly, I was in Holland during December for a week and was amazed at the lack of litter and rubbish.

Wherever I went it was free of any litter and rubbish and people took pride in how clean they kept their country. The fines for litter are heavy so they don’t do it!

There was a food van in the village I was staying in and if there was any litter left they could lose their licence, so please Mr MP don’t blame anyone but the people who cause the problem and hit them with a big fine! CHARLES YOUELL 74 Dickens Avenue
