AMERICAN football team The Hornets have announced the Hillingdon Athletics Stadium in Uxbridge will be their home stadium for the upcoming season, writes Sean Davies.

The Hornets’ management team were unanimous in selecting the Uxbridge ground because of the modern grandstand and the raised under cover standing area. The first game will be versus Ipswich Cardinals on Sunday, April 12, at 2pm.

Harlem-born team coach Paul Holmes said: “The growing popularity of American football in the UK has given us the opportunity to stage our 2015 season games in this great facility, and The Hornets hope that the residents of Hillingdon get behind the team as we strive for promotion this year, so we can play against the more established teams next year.”

The success of the three sell-out NFL games at Wembley every year has fuelled a growing hunger for watching live gridiron games in London, which The Hornets are hoping to satisfy with a full matchday experience including cheerleaders and a pop-up samba band.
