Stars come out for gala din­ner

Celebri­ties raise cash for hos­pi­tal fund

FA­MOUS faces ap­peared at a spe­cial gala din­ner to raise money for Hare­field Hos­pi­tal and help cel­e­brate its 100th an­niver­sary.

The spe­cial evening was held at glitzy LSO (Lon­don Sym­phony Orches­tra) St Luke’s, in Lon­don.

It was hosted by Clive An­der­son and in­cluded Black­ad­der stars Rowan Atkin­son and Tim McIn­nerny, as well as the show’s writer Richard Curtis, who also penned The Vicar of Di­b­ley, Love Ac­tu­ally and Four Wed­dings and a Fu­neral.

Also present on the evening were co­me­di­ans in­clud­ing Rob Bry­don, An­gus Deay­ton and Robin Ince, New York-based singer Anna Bergman, poet and for­mer Hare­field heart trans­plant pa­tient Lord Grey Gowrie and Will Pope, a young­ster who had a heart trans­plant at the hos­pi­tal two years ago.

The evening was billed as an event where art and science meet. Also on stage on the night was the Hill End Road hos­pi­tal’s direc­tor of heart and lung trans­plan­ta­tion direc­tor, An­dre Simon.

Money raised from the gala will be spent on pur­chas­ing Or­gan Care Sys­tems, which keep re­cently do­nated hearts and lungs warm and pul­sat­ing dur­ing trans­porta­tion.

The event took place on Fe­bru­ary 10 and is one of sev­eral events tak­ing place this year to cel­e­brate Hare­field Hos­pi­tal’s cen­te­nary.
