Blaze at sal­vage yard

A CAR­A­VAN, motorhome and five cars were de­stroyed when a fire swept through a sal­vage yard in West Dray­ton.

Two peo­ple in­side the static car­a­van in Sta­tion Road man­aged to es­cape un­harmed af­ter the blaze started just be­fore 5am on Sun­day.

Fire crews found and cooled four gas cylin­ders, and moved an­other eight cylin­ders to a safe po­si­tion. Four fire en­gines and around 21 fire­fight­ers from sta­tions in Hayes, Heathrow and Hilling­don at­tended the scene, and brought the flames un­der con­trol by 6.30am.

The fire started in a car park at the back of The Blues Bar, in Sta­tion Road. Land­lord Jo­hann John­son said: “The pub is fine, two dry stor­age units at the rear of the pub were dam­aged. “We don’t know any more at the mo­ment – I’m wait­ing for the fire brigade and po­lice to get back to me.”

The cause of the fire is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
