BRITAIN’S Got Talent star James Smith kicked off the search for Hillingdon’s Busker of the Year on Saturday.

The entertainer got shoppers singing along at intu Uxbridge and encouraged the borough’s undiscovered talent to step into the limelight and show what they can do.

The shopping centre is offering a prize package worth more than £500, including a recording session with local studio RnR, to the best local act, who will be decided by the public through an online vote.

Any aspiring musicians, performers and singers who think they have what it takes can enter the competition by sending a short clip to uxbridge. information@intu.co.uk with the subject #BuskerOfTheYear and a short biography about themselves.

Craig Higgins, marketing manager at intu Uxbridge, said: “Our Busker of the Year competition kicked off with a bang on Saturday.

“James Smith was a huge hit with shoppers and entertained them throughout the day with his incredible voice.

“We hope his performance has inspired members of the public to pick up a microphone and enter our competition to find the next star.”

The competition launch on March 21 was timed to coincide with National Learn to Play Day, which encouraged members of the public to learn a new musical instrument.

Pupils from Bishop-Winnington Ingram Primary School, in Ruislip, went along to show off their talents, and they also had a go on the giant floor piano.

The search for the Busker of the Year will continue throughout the year. For more information visit www.intu.co.uk/uxbridge.
