Edwards the difference for Rangers in final
FINN Edwards scored the decisive goal as Ruislip Rangers U13s defeated Sandgate 1-0 in the Middlesex County Cup final, writes Dimitri Kondonis.
Edwards’ first-half strike proved the difference, with the forward converting from the penalty spot after being felled.
And despite Sandgate’s best attempts, their hosts held out for the tournament victory, claiming their second trophy after having won the League Cup the previous week.
Following a tense start, the game exploded into life after Edwards opened the scoring.
Ruislip were encouraged after edging into an early lead despite the absence of Jack Neill – the club’s top scorer. But the turning point of the match came six minutes later, when Sandgate earned a penalty of their own, before Harry Sandiford kept out the spot-kick.
Sandgate pushed for a leveller, having seen a goal-line clearance deny them, but were held by Ruislip after a wonderful late save by man of the match Sandiford saw Rangers through.
Meanwhile, Denham U13s saw both their sides compete in the Wycombe Saints Tournament final.
Both the Blues and Whites made it to the final, where the match was decided on penalties by Denham Blues.
Denham U14s romped to a 4-1 victory against Ascot U16s in a friendly at the Den after goals from Julia Thurauf, Katie Akerman and a brace from Kayleigh Currivan – including a wonderful long-range lob.
Elsewhere, Cowley Youth U11s beat Foxes Silver 9-1 with goals from Lewis Jones, Harvey Brown, Stacy Bradfield, Frankie Major and Connor Geary.
And West Drayton U8s ended their season with a comfortable 4-0 win against Yeading Hew.
Liam Dines, Georgie Mee, Karim Guerrag, George Ireland, Soroush Hafiz, Crace Grantham, Harpkreet Singh and Reilly Barrett made up the victorious squad. HARLINGTON Bowls Club edged a tight affair 57-53 against Hounslow Conservatives in their first friendly match of 2015.
Despite losing two of the three sets, Harlington hit back with J Fulbrook, C Fitzgerald and D Cutmore, who earned an emphatic 19 point victory in the second set to see the hosts through to an overall victory.
Although A Macolive, B Reed and S Cutmore just missed out in their opening set with a 25-20 defeat, and B Poole, N Klimentjeva, P Domm, D Maylin fell to a ten point defeat in the third set, Harlington’s second set saw them earn a tough victory overall.
Harlington are looking for new members for their summer season (May to September), with coaching and free equipment available to use. Club day is Wednesdays.
