Captain stars on all fronts for seconds

Harefield Gazette - - SPORT -

SKIPPER Shaikh Noman led from the front to maintain Hayes seconds’ winning start to the season as they beat Burnham fourths by three wickets on Saturday.

The captain took two wickets, claimed two run outs, took one catch and smashed a matchwinning unbeaten knock of 32.

Having won the toss, Burnham decided to bat and made a blistering start taking 26 from the first four overs.

However, Noman ripped through the middle order to leave Burnham reeling at 70 odd with four wickets down yet many overs remaining.

They pushed on to 150-5 from 36 overs and the magical 200 was still in sight for Burnham to gain the maximum 10 batting points, but some neat stumping from George Painter ensured they fell 24 runs short of that target.

On the resumption of play, Painter made his intentions very clear from the start by taking 25 from the first three overs with his trademark cuts and pulls as his fans looked on with pride.

He went on to top score with 35, three more than Noman’s unbeaten 32, with the Hayes skipper leading his boys home alongside Ronesh Thanthirige on 17 not out.

While it is back to the drawing board for Burnham, Hayes will have a chance to continue their excellent start to the season away at Slough next week.

In the form Hayes are in, games cannot come quick enough.
