PUPILS at Glebe Primary School in Ickenham were encouraged to aim high during a recent visit to Oxford.

Year six youngsters visited Christ Church College touring the famous college buildings where past students have included the former prime minister Anthony Eden, Albert Einstein and Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll.

The children, having read the book in school, were able to learn more about how Carroll was inspired to write his Alice books and saw some of the locations used in the story.

Nick Alford, head teacher of Glebe School in Sussex Road, said: “We have high aspirations for all of our children. We use this trip to inspire them. We make it clear to all of the children that they too could make it to Oxford, or another top university or secure a good job, if they continue to work hard.”

Former Glebe pupil Beth Kume, who is currently studying at Oxford, met the children and told them about life at the university and encouraged them to follow in her footsteps.
