A YOUTH football club has proved its global appeal by donating old kits to a school in Gambia.

Explorers FC in Sipson was thrilled to receive photos this month of Bundung School’s squad sporting the club’s colours, having shipped out the old strip last year.

Club secretary Alison Rossiter said: “It was extremely humbling to receive an amazing letter thanking us for the donation, along with photographs of them in our kits.

“We now have a regular kit box being shipped over to Gambia.”

The club, in Sipson Way, was established in 1994 and has more than 170 members aged three to 15, with 15 teams.

It has won the Middlesex FA’s Charter Standard Development Club Award for two years running, in recognition of its work to develop both the talents of its young players and the management and refereeing skills of its dedicated volunteers.

Head coach Brendan Rossiter is now studying for a UEFA B licence, which is the second highest practical coaching award available.

As well as weekend coaching and matches the club runs a social inclusion project for children in the local community every Monday and Wednesday, from 5.30pm to 7pm, with youngsters able to turn up and play for just £1.

The club’s annual tournament, taking place on July 4 and 5 this year, attracts more than 160 teams from across the south east.

This year’s family fun day, which is open to all, will take place on Saturday July 18, from 10am.
