HS2 closures will be devastating
I WRITE with regards to your article on road closures caused by HS2-linked utility works (Gazette, June 10).
The effect of these no go areas will have a devastating effect on the children of the four schools directly affected. Parents are expected to ensure that their children attend school every day except in the case of illness and also to be on time.
If these roads are closed children will be frequently late or missing school, under the current regulations this can result in the parents being fined for the breaches of school rules.
The effect on the children will be far more dangerous educationally as well as psychologically.
Pupils hate any uncertainly about schools and in some cases will become too frightened to go.
Parents should contact the Secretary of State for Education reporting this irresponsible situation created by HS2 and ask why this private company is being allowed to destroy their children’s education.
When HS2 was first formed they created specialist groups for finance, business and engineering.
They were requested to also form a Medical and Environmental specialist group consisting of doctors and environment advisors. This they totally refused to do, presumable because they were terrified of their findings.
This current situation is exactly why they were so essential. HS2 again show total contempt for the schools, residents in these dangerous construction zones let alone people just trying to get to work
There is no good reason this construction work cannot be carried out further north along the line without any road closures, it is just more convenient and cheaper for HS2 to choose this area
If they intend to carry on with
cavalier attitude towards the public they will encounter serious and sustained resistance from the residents concerned. A major change in attitude by HS2 if the wish to continue without major problems.
