Chilli-ng out at red hot festival
A WOMAN from Uxbridge did the girls proud by braving the heat at the Reading Chilli Festival.
Shahina Waseem, and Sid Barber from Tilehurst, split the victory in the chilli eating competition at the festival on Saturday June 20.
The pair (and seven men who dropped out of the challenge when the heat got too much) ate a series of chillies ending with the world’s hottest pepper, the Carolina Reaper, which has an average Scoville rating of 1,569,300.
Beginning with the Fresno Red the heat rose with the challengers trying 15 different chillies including the Naga Jolokia Red and Ghost Orange peppers.
When both women polished off their Carolina Reapers they agreed to share the glory as well as a £50 prize.
Ms Waseem, who has now won four chilli eating competitions, said she wants to be famous for being the “invincible Chilli Queen”.
Last month, she claimed victory at the Foodies Festival in Brentford.
The spice fan, who has a large collection of chilli sauces and carried a bottle of Da’Bomb with her wherever she goes, already has plans to take part in two more competitions this summer.
