HILLINGDON enjoyed a successful weekend at Europe’s largest annual youth sports event as the borough’s junior tennis and male and female hockey and table tennis teams eased through qualifying rounds at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.

Each sport was played at Redbridge Leisure Centre apart from junior tennis, which took place at Sutton Tennis academy.

They can now look forward to competing at the finals at Crystal Palace this Saturday and Sunday against the cream of the capital’s sporting talent.

Hockey team manager Andy Lazarevic was delighted with both the male and female performances. He said: “It’s just fantastic. “The girls have just got better and better each year but this is by far the best. We’ve really pulled together.”
