Staff mark the end of an era at Breakspear School

-

A SCHOOL in Ickenham has bid farewell to its much loved deputy head and 15 other staff as it marked the ‘end of an era’ this month.

The Breakspear School in Bushey Road said goodbye to Lynne Sumner, who has been at the school for 11 years, and other teachers and support staff, who have 129 years combined service between them. Four staff are thought to have taken redundancy and others like Mrs Sumner left through retirement or for new challenges.

Children sang songs and danced and members of the RAF Band played My Way at a farewell picnic for Mrs Sumner.

Afterwards she wrote: “The sun shone and everyone was able to enjoy the picnic on the field. The atmosphere was so friendly, affectionate and full of good will and joy. A beautiful experience and memory for the 11 years I have been at Breakspear.”

Mrs Sumner was head of the old Breakspear Infant and Nursery School before becoming deputy of the amalgamated Breakspear primary school.
