END OF AN ERA FOR SWIM COACH
HILLINGDON Swimming Club has bid a fond farewell to a coach who has been with the club for more than 30 years.
Dave Austin is retiring from coaching after three decades, having started out as a parent watching from the gallery when his daughters swam for the club in the 1980s.
Encouraged by club president Daphne Short, he became involved with coaching and quickly gained qualifications in both coaching and officiating, and has since coached hundreds of swimmers.
Daphne said: “Dave has always been a great favourite with the swimmers and was always surrounded by them at club presentation evenings. The club has been extremely fortunate to have had such a dedicated member of the team for so long and we will all miss Dave at training sessions and officiating at galas.”
At the recent club session, Short presented Austin with a silver quaich and gift vouchers, while he also received gift vouchers from swimmers and their families.
