Pavil­ions given top green hon­our

AN UXBRIDGE shop­ping cen­tre was hon­oured in an in­ter­na­tional cam­paign to find the green­est com­pa­nies, coun­cils and com­mu­ni­ties.

The Pavil­ions Shop­ping Cen­tre won a Green Ap­ple En­vi­ron­ment Award af­ter com­pet­ing against more than 500 other nom­i­na­tions in the Green Ap­ple Awards for En­vi­ron­men­tal Best Prac­tice.

They will be pre­sented with their tro­phy and cer­tifi­cate at a glit­ter­ing pre­sen­ta­tion cer­e­mony in the Houses of Par­lia­ment, Lon­don, on Mon­day, Novem­ber 16.

The cen­tre’s win­ning pa­per will be pub­lished in The Green Book, the lead­ing in­ter­na­tional work of ref­er­ence on en­vi­ron­men­tal best prac­tice, so that oth­ers around the world can fol­low their ex­am­ple and learn from their achieve­ment.

Pavil­ions cen­tre man­ager Aaron Bayliss said: “We’re de­lighted to have been awarded this ac­co­lade. Over the past few years we’ve worked hard to make the cen­tre greener and have man­aged to re­duce our energy con­sump­tion by 17 per cent year on year, which is a tremen­dous achieve­ment.

“It’s been a team ef­fort and ev­ery­one’s hard work has paid off.

“Now the fo­cus is to con­tinue to im­prove on this and to re­duce our emis­sions even fur­ther.”

Pavil­ions could also progress to rep­re­sent the UK in the Green World Awards and the Euro­pean Busi­ness Awards for the En­vi­ron­ment.

The Green Ap­ple Awards be­gan in 1994 and have be­come es­tab­lished as the coun­try’s ma­jor recog­ni­tion for en­vi­ron­men­tal en­deav­our.
