Pavilions given top green honour
AN UXBRIDGE shopping centre was honoured in an international campaign to find the greenest companies, councils and communities.
The Pavilions Shopping Centre won a Green Apple Environment Award after competing against more than 500 other nominations in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice.
They will be presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, London, on Monday, November 16.
The centre’s winning paper will be published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their achievement.
Pavilions centre manager Aaron Bayliss said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this accolade. Over the past few years we’ve worked hard to make the centre greener and have managed to reduce our energy consumption by 17 per cent year on year, which is a tremendous achievement.
“It’s been a team effort and everyone’s hard work has paid off.
“Now the focus is to continue to improve on this and to reduce our emissions even further.”
Pavilions could also progress to represent the UK in the Green World Awards and the European Business Awards for the Environment.
The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour.
