Shocked by hike in car parking costs

Harefield Gazette - - OPINION - CHARMAINE GRIMES (MS) By email JOHN BATES By email

I WOULD like to register my dismay and anger at the increase in parking charges at the above car park.

I did wonder at the time when they were installing fancy new payment machines and redecorating who would be paying for this, but I should have know it would be joe public of course.

We no longer have the option of 2hours, 3hours etc, it is 2hours @ £2 and 4hours @ £4 – nothing in between now, hard luck if you want to shop and lunch or enjoy a coffee, you will have to budget for parking, greedy, greedy Intu, changes were not necessary especially not at our expense. It was bad enough when they doubled the after-6pm charge from £1 to £2. I have just looked on their website £3 now for after 6pm use, that’s an increase since Intu took over from £1 to £2 to £3, shocking !

Surely this will have a knock on effect for users visiting the cinema and social events?

There are no concessions for Hillingdon residents or pensioners and to visit the cinema is an expensive outing without adding on the cost of extortionate parking costs. To spend any decent amount of time in Uxbridge now it will cost you a guaranteed £4, an increase of £1.50 as we will not have the option of the £2.50 charge.

I would like to think you would want people to shop and socialise in Uxbridge rather than drive them out to out of town shopping malls.

Rip off Hillingdon/Intu,

Intu has recently increased its prices, previously parking for an hour or less during Monday – Saturday cost £1.20, this has now gone up to £2. Admittedly they have increased the time allowed to cover a two-hour period but find an increase of around 65% rip off!

I gather that the Sunday parking rate, which was previously £1, has increased a staggering 150% to £2.50! I expected an increase when I saw work recently being carried out installing new ticket machines etc… but I didn’t expect to be mugged!
