RELAY TAKES OFF:
Runners in Heathrow challenge
THREE hundred runners have taken part in the first relay marathon on Heathrow Airport’s northern runway. The event got under way at at the stroke of midnight on Saturday, September 12, and saw eager runners from Border Force, the Met Police, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Heathrow Express and the airport taking on the challenge.
A live band assembled to ensure runners didn’t flag and 100 volunteers shunned their bedtime to stand on the sidelines at the runway and sound encouragement.
A Heathrow spokeswoman described the atmosphere on the night as “electric” and said more than £31,600 has been raised so far for charity.
Those benefiting are the Heathrow Community Fund, Oxfam, Flying Start and Help for Heroes.
Donations are still being collected and anyone wishing to support the good causes can do so at: https://mydonate.
