Not into inflated parking charge

Harefield Gazette - - OPINION -

I AM pleased to see that I’m not the only one to think that the new INTU parking charges are a ‘rip-off ’ (Gazette, September 16).

I went to the Odeon Silver Screen last week, the film cost £3 to see and the parking cost £4 as I was there for 2hrs 14mins, a 62% increase.

I emailed INTU and got what I class as a ‘wishy-washy’ justification, that people were missing their time period by a couple of minutes so the new tariffs give them that little bit longer.

Although the INTU car park is the most convenient to get to for me and is Pay On Exit I will not be using it again. I come into Uxbridge quite a lot each week and I am now using the Granges or the Cedars although they are Pay & Display they are working out much cheaper even if I don’t use all the time I buy.

Up to 3hrs cost £2 with the Hillingdon Resident card discount.

In addition to that later this year these car parks will be changed to Pay On Exit making it more convenient. I hope that the Council will not be taking a leaf out of INTU’s book!

It is a great pity that INTU have done this because it will affect the single parents, pensioners, etc who would use this car park during the day weekdays far more than any other group of people, ie the ones with less disposable income.

One bit of good news though, by using Granges/Cedars it will mean that I will be getting extra exercise and that has got to be a good thing! PAUL ANDREWS 72 Misbourne Rd
