Young star Porter called up to U17s squad
ICKENHAM starlet Jasmine Porter is celebrating after being called up to the British U17s foil fencing squad.
The 14-year-old, who attends Vyners School, gained good results in Newcastle and Hendon to move into the top 10 of the national rankings at the age level.
She will now be flying the flag for the country at the next European U17 event to be held in Bratislava, Slovakia, later this month.
Porter said: “It has been a great honour to represent England at U15 level for the last two years and I am really pleased that now I have been able to move up a level to be invited to represent my country at such a prestigious event.
“I could not have done this without the fantastic coaching that I have been getting at Three Rivers Young Blades in Rickmansworth and especially from my coach, former British senior champion Dominque Szokolovics at Fencers Club, London, who has been a great role model for me as well as providing encouragement when things have not been going so well!”
She added: “I am also so grateful to the support that Vyners School have given me to pursue my fencing goals.”
Porter’s coaching team will now be working with her to prepare her for the event in Bratislava, which will feature the best of youth fencers from all over Europe.
