Weed burnt in blaze at flat

PO­LICE are in­ves­ti­gat­ing af­ter a cannabis fac­tory hid­den in an Uxbridge flat went up in flames at the week­end.

Fire­fight­ers spent two hours tack­ling the blaze in Cow­ley Road on Satur­day af­ter­noon.

A spokesman for Lon­don Fire Brigade said: “The fire was at a shop with flats above it.

“A small area of the ground floor shop and half of a four-roomed flat on the first floor was dam­aged by fire.”

Crews from Hilling­don, Ruis­lip and Heathrow at­tended the in­ci­dent.

The Metropoli­tan Po­lice, who were called shortly af­ter the fire brigade, con­firmed a cannabis fac­tory had been dis­cov­ered at the prop­erty and Cow­ley Road was closed as a pre­cau­tion.

A spokesman said: “All cannabis plants and cul­ti­va­tion equip­ment have been re­moved from the prop­erty.”

Hilling­don CID is in­ves­ti­gat­ing and there had been no ar­rests at the time of go­ing to press.
