Use a secure lock to protect your bike

Harefield Gazette - - OPINION - GERAINT HAYWARD Thackeray Close Hillingdon

I WOULD like to warn any other readers who cycle to ASDA in Hayes of what happened to my bicycle recently – it was stolen from the cycle racks outside the store.

On reviewing the CCTV footage the security guard and I could see the thief – with his face obscured by his hooded jacket – riding off with my bike only 2-3 minutes after I left it there.

He had evidently been nearby, ready with his cutters to cut through the lock, waiting for someone to come and leave their bike there. Given the speed at which the bike was stolen, the security guard reckons this was a professional thief.

The lock I had on my bike was one of those coiled cable type combination ones: needless to say I will be investing in a better one.
