Taz is Restless for TV choir triumph

Harefield Gazette - - NEWS -

A FORMER Uxbridge College student has made the semi-finals of Gareth Malone’s BBC2 show, The Naked Choir.

Tassama Franklyn, known as Taz, entered the TV singing contest along with five other vocalists from Southampton Solent University, where he is studying a Popular Music Performance degree.

He is the only male in the a cappella group Restless Symphony.

Taz said: “Singing is one of the best ways to express yourself – there is a song for every mood and scenario.

“Growing up in a musical household and church, it was something that was introduced to me at a very young age.”

He lists his inspirations as the stage presence of Michael Jackson, the vocals of Eric Benét and the tone and lyrics of John Legend.

Restless Symphony’s recent performance, broadcast on October 13, saw Taz take the spotlight in a circus themed performance of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

The singer added: “A cappella music is the most challenging type of music. It tests the ability to harmonise and be creative.”

The Naked Choir is on BBC2 at 9pm on Tuesdays.
