MP joins celebration with hospital friends
Politician cuts the cake at League’s anniversary
HILLINGDON Hospital’s League of Friends has marked its 60th anniversary with a special party attended by Hayes MP John McDonnell.
The Friends have run a variety of shops and trolley services over the decades and raised in excess of a million pounds for the hospital in that time.
To mark the anniversary, more than 50 existing and retired League volunteers got together for afternoon tea, generously funded by local businessman John Guest.
Archive records show that the first purchase made for the hospital by the Friends was three hairdryers at a cost of £10.
A spokesman said: “Anyone wanting to support our fundraising can find us either at our Tea Bar in outpatients, where we sell a wide choice of drinks and snacks, or visit our gorgeous baby boutique in maternity for the cutest baby wear.”
Publicity officer Chris Allum thanked Mr McDonnell for finding time in a very busy schedule to attend the party and his continued support to the League.
He had previously visited the tea bar in June where he took a turn at serving tea and cake as part of Volunteers Week 2015.
