Grace hot on the heels of striker Vardy’s feat
WATCH out Jamie Vardy – Grace Nwoseh is the next hot shot on the block.
While Leicester’s Vardy matched the Premier League record for scoring in consecutive matches on Saturday, Nwoseh is hot on his heels, scoring in her seventh game in a row for Denham United Ladies U13s on Sunday.
Her brace, as well as further strikes from Ellie Wright, Lauren Clarke and Mayze O’Mahoney, earned a 5-0 win over Bengeo Tigers, in which Lauren Clarke was named player of the match for a great performance in midfield.
A spirited display from an U12s side down to the bare bones saw them come from behind to edge past Hearts of Teddlothian Panthers 4-3, with goals from Maddie Kirkby, Savannah Charles, Abbie Barrett and star girl Gracie Gitten – her first for the club.
But a Grace Donaghey hat-trick and a fine display from Tegan Condra was not enough to prevent the U11s going down to Harvesters.
Goals from Naomi Hickey and Alisha Bajwa, and superb performances from Holly Symons and Niamh Reynolds, saw the U14s blow the title race wide open by beating league leaders Garston 2-1, but the U15s lost their own clash with the league leaders, AFC Wimbledon, 6-4, despite goals from Jessica Stickley, Katit Akerman, Kayleigh Curivan and Anne Walsh, with Kodi Spencer star girl.
The first team, meanwhile, comfortably beat Bedford 4-0, thanks to a Nat Murray double and other goals from Clarice Gould and Holleigh Marsh. SEAMERS Harry Podmore and Tom Helm have both signed contract extensions with Middlesex CCC.
Podmore, 21, who has made 18 first team appearances, having made List-A and Twenty20 debuts in 2014, continued his progress with five NatWest T20 Blast appearances for Middlesex in 2015.
For the second eleven this year he picked up 42 Championship wickets, claimed three five wicket hauls and also hit a maiden SEC hundred and 116 not out against Essex at Billericay.
Helm, also 21, has 11 first0team appearances to his name, having made FirstClass and List-A debuts in 2013. After impressing with seven wickets in Middlesex’s opening two first-class clashes of the season, Helm had limited opportunities this term after being sidelined with a long-term back injury.
