Join our lunch and tea at Christmas
YOUR readers may like to know that this year is the 25th anniversary of Lonely at Christmas.
It started in 1991 when Cllr Ray Puddifoot approached Rotary to do something for people would be spending Christmas Day on their own.
Uxbridge Rotarians helped prepare food on Christmas Eve, Ray’s friends Mike Wilkins and Malcolm Ward helped on Christmas Day.
The first year we had approximately 40 guests. Last year we entertained approximately 120.
Since 1991 the following have been involved: Rotary Club of Uxbridge, Christ Church, Uxbridge (providing the halls and kitchen), Hillingdon Community Transport and Drivers, Sainsbury’s Uxbridge who provided the food and contents of goody bags, and the helpers over the last 24 years including the family of the late Mr and Mrs Fothergill.
I am arranging the annual Christmas Day lunch and tea for those who have no family locally and as a result will be spending Christmas Day on their own.
It will be at Christ Church Halls (Bailey & Watts Halls) Redford Way, 12 noon until 5.50pm on Christmas Day.
