Donations needed for equine fund
FIFTEEN years ago the RSPCA Hillingdon branch was left an equine legacy and an elderly horse to care for.
Jubilee died several years later and two elderly equines took her place – Patricia the pony and Ellie the donkey.
Now approaching their 29th year, neither were re-homable for health reasons. Patricia has ‘sweet itch’ and Ellie feet problems due to neglect and abuse.
Many equines along the years have benefited from this legacy and found safe homes.
Many readers will remember ‘Tishy’ and ‘Ellie’ and we thought you would like to know both are still going strong. They both enjoyed long hours in their paddock in the summer, where they have a field shelter to get away from the flies if necessary.
Patricia still limps a little due to her hip damage, but this doesn’t seem to hurt her, and she can still canter round the paddock.
Ellie cannot bear her to be out of sight. They are a joy to have around. Patricia is wearing her super premier rug now as the weather has turned really nasty, which was bought with donations last year and is really cosy during the winter months.
They are only in their paddock for six to seven hours a day and we get summoned by them both if we are late taking them back to their stables in the main building next to each other.
If you would like to donate specifically to our equine fund we would be very grateful.
Both geriatric equines need regular veterinary care and a bale of hay at £4 doesn’t seem to go far!
Do you have a little spare time to help your local RSPCA branch continue its work for animal welfare? Our charity shops needs volunteers. What we spend on welfare is governed by what voluntary donations we raise, of which our shops are the main source.
Could you help distribute our Christmas appeal leaflets? Postage is pretty prohibited these days. Maybe organise your own Christmas fundraiser among family, friends and work colleagues?
Pavements can be very cold at this time of year for homeless people and their dogs. Any spare sleeping bags you could donate would be e welcome.
Please also note it iss extended hours shopping at our RSPCA shops on Wednesdays (5pm to 7pm).
If you think you can offer one of our animals a loving home then please call RSPCA Hillingdon Branch on 01895 833417 or visit our website www.rspca hillingdonclinic.org. uk to download an application form.
