Teenagers make it to FA Cup final – sort of
DENHAM LADIES U14
DENHAM United Ladies’ U14s reached the FA Cup Final at the weekend! No, you read it correctly – but this was the People’s FA Cup.
The tournament is designed for any player, from Sunday League cloggers to disability footballers, to play in their own version of the world’s oldest competition, in a whole range of categories.
Denham entered two teams, captained by Tilly Wilson and Courtney Woolley, one of which reached their category’s final, only to lose 1-0.
However, not even that defeat spoiled a great day out for the girls, which was capped by being interviewed by the BBC.
The U15s were also in cup action, knocking Kempton Girls U16s out of the Capital Girls AFA County Cup 2-0 to book a semi-final place against either Spurs or Enfield.
It took a 25 yard strike from midfielder Katie Akerman to break the deadlock, before Kayleigh Currivan made it 2-0, and not even a missed penalty thwarted Denham’s progress. Player of the match went to Kodi Spencer.
The U12s, however, went down to the only goal of the game against league leaders St Joseph’s, despite holding out until 10 minutes from time. Player of the match went to Zara Butt.
In the senior section, a Krystal Clarke double, plus further strikes from Megan Payne and Rachel Blackburn, saw the reserves book a county cup quarter-final spot with a 4-0 win over Camden Town.
The senior development squad, meanwhile, were in seventh heaven, hammering Colne Valley Reserves 7-2 thanks to braces from Lauren Cox, Helen Capewell and Nat Murray, and a Vicky Birkby strike.
Meanwhile, the Hillingdon U12s district side signed off for the season with a 100 per cent record after making it five wins out of five by beating Camden. JACK-HI bowlers claimed the derby bragging rights with a 66-50 win over Rosedale Park.
The top Jack-Hi rink was J.Chamberlain, K.Smith, R.Chamberlain and B.Bruce who won 25-17.
The other two rinks were won by 4 shots, M Cotterill, P Lovering, D Anderson, S Pocknell winning 21-17 and A Haggerty, V Jones, P James and E Chilvers triumphing 20-16.
