Hefty fine for storage

Harefield Gazette - - NEWS -

HILLINGDON Council has prosecuted a man who stored shipping containers without planning permission.

The borough planning department received a complaint in October 2013 about containers stored behind 36-50 Joel Street, Northwood, and ordered their removal.

The owner, Naren Shah Karia, an accountant of 27A Green Lane, left it until the day before his court case to comply with the enforcement notice.

He appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on January 26 and was fined £10,000 and full £1,101 costs, after the court took a dim view of the length of time the defendant had dragged the matter out.

Cllr Keith Burrows, cabinet member for planning, said: “If you deliberately delay compliance with planning enforcement notices, forcing the council to pursue a prosecution at taxpayers’ expense and potentially waste the Court’s time, you will be heavily penalised.”
