‘We want runway decision now’
HILLINGDON residents who support Heathrow expansion have met to campaign for a swift government decision on the third runway.
Back Heathrow said more than 50 local supporters gathered on February 15 to hear from Michael Uzielli, chief financial officer at the airport, who shared the latest news on the runway debate and set out Heathrow’s plans.
Rob Gray, Back Heathrow’s campaign director, said: “From Hillingdon to Hounslow and from Spelthorne to Ealing, more and more people want the government to make a swift decision on Heathrow’s future.
“More than 50,000 residents told the Airports Commission that they support Heathrow expansion, so these new meetings offer an extra opportunity for some of our local activists to get more involved.
“Many residents expressed their frustration that when it comes to Heathrow, political games in Westminster are being played at their expense, putting the local economy at risk and harming future job prospects.”
Naresh Ahluwalia, who lives in Yiewsley and attended the meeting, said: “People in the community understand how important the airport is.
“Many local jobs depend on the airport and we need to build another runway as soon as possible to secure more jobs in the future.
“The only way for this to happen is if David Cameron approves expansion. Then Heathrow can modernise, build a third runway and become the number one airport in the world again.”
A decision on whether to expand Heathrow or Gatwick airports is expected from the government in the second half of this year.
