Abbots spring an upset RUGBY
HILLINGDON Abbots sprung an upset to frustrate runaway Herts/Middlesex Division One leaders Kilburn Cosmos.
The Abbots belied their mid-table league position to beat the high flying Cosmos 15-14 at Raeburn Road on Saturday afternoon.
Abbots, kicking off into a strong wind and establishing an initial hold on the ball, saw man of the match Kyle Buckingham shine through a sea of mud to become the star of the show.
Back row forward Neil Gordge registered the first points of the game but they trailed by seven at the interval despite Abbots captain Elliot Wake also getting in on the act.
The tables were eventually turned though and full back Brad Buckingham ran across the whitewash as they re-took the lead, Wake, as usual not missing a beat with the conversion.
But it was a nervy finish as the table-toppers fought for a share of the spoils, and they would have snatched victory had a late penalty kick not fallen short of the target.
