It’s up in the air, along with pollution

Harefield Gazette - - OPINION - DAVE ROBBINS Wimpole Road West Drayton

I SEE Rob Gray claims that 50.000 local people support Heathrow expansion.

Unfortunately for him only 50 turned up at his meeting (Gazette February 24).

There is of course no immediate prospect of David ‘no ifs, no buts, no third runway’ Cameron approving a third runway anytime soon.

Back Heathrow may have noticed that he has another issue on his hands at the moment! It’s also time to clear up nonsense spouted in the media about the Government’s postponement on a decision on airport expansion in December.

This wasn’t done just to appease Zac Goldsmith but because they faced a real threat of legal action.

I suppose it’s possible that the Dept for Transport could acquire the services of Harry Potter to magic away all the problems of noise, traffic congestion, air pollution, flooding etc which bedevil the case for a third runway but failing that the Government will face a protracted legal battle and further Tory disunity over this following their party’s civil war over the EU referendum.

On one thing I do agree with Rob Gray. It is time for the government to take a decision on a third runway soon. Give up on it.
