Hymns and readings celebrate Myor’s thanksgiving service
THE MAYOR of Hillingdon hosted the annual Civic Service of Thanksgiving, with a celebratory service of hymns and readings.
The service, was held at Our Lady of Lourdes and St Michael Catholic church in Uxbridge, by eight mayors and civic leaders from London and beyond, on Sunday.
Mayor Cllr George Cooper and his wife, Mayoress of Hillingdon, Cllr Judith Cooper hosted the ceremony attended by a host of dignitaries and representatives from local organisations.
The Mayor said: “It was a good turnout with parishioners, family, friends, past mayors and councillors, and supported by visiting mayors from Harrow, Merton, Wycombe District Council, Barking and Dagenham, Sevenoaks, Dacorum Council and the Chairman of Three Rivers. We want to thank all of them for the generous collection taken for the Mayor’s charity appeal.”
The service of hymns and readings was celebrated by the parish priest and chaplain to the mayor, Fr Nicholas Schofield.
In his sermon, Bishop John Wilson, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, spoke of the importance of friendship in exercising civic leadership.
