Hymns and read­ings cel­e­brate Myor’s thanks­giv­ing ser­vice

THE MAYOR of Hilling­don hosted the an­nual Civic Ser­vice of Thanks­giv­ing, with a cel­e­bra­tory ser­vice of hymns and read­ings.

The ser­vice, was held at Our Lady of Lour­des and St Michael Catholic church in Uxbridge, by eight may­ors and civic lead­ers from Lon­don and be­yond, on Sun­day.

Mayor Cllr Ge­orge Cooper and his wife, May­oress of Hilling­don, Cllr Ju­dith Cooper hosted the cer­e­mony at­tended by a host of dig­ni­taries and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from lo­cal or­gan­i­sa­tions.

The Mayor said: “It was a good turnout with parish­ioners, fam­ily, friends, past may­ors and coun­cil­lors, and sup­ported by vis­it­ing may­ors from Har­row, Mer­ton, Wy­combe District Coun­cil, Bark­ing and Da­gen­ham, Sevenoaks, Da­co­rum Coun­cil and the Chair­man of Three Rivers. We want to thank all of them for the gen­er­ous col­lec­tion taken for the Mayor’s char­ity ap­peal.”

The ser­vice of hymns and read­ings was cel­e­brated by the parish priest and chap­lain to the mayor, Fr Ni­cholas Schofield.

In his ser­mon, Bishop John Wil­son, Aux­il­iary Bishop of West­min­ster, spoke of the im­por­tance of friend­ship in ex­er­cis­ing civic lead­er­ship.
