Harefield Gazette - - ANIMAL NEWS -

THIS is Bud on his day out in Brighton. Like many visitors who have gone before him, he’s sitting on the beach in his coat. But, by all accounts, he really enjoyed the day and he deserved it. Bud, a lurcher, is currently the dog who has been waiting the longest time for a home out of all three Battersea Dogs Home centres - London, Old Windsor and Brands Hatch. Because he has spent over two years waiting, Bud now lives in foster care and it was his fosterers who took him to the sea. He loved it and was very wellbehaved. Not surprising really as his foster carers say he is the perfect house guest. He settled into his foster home quickly and thrives from having a routine. He’s house trained and sleeps in the kitchen at night. He can be left on his own for short periods and also enjoys trips out in the car.Bud’s looking for experienced owners who will ensure boundaries are in place in his new home. He needs to be kept on-lead and muzzled when out and about as he has a strong prey drive. He walks well on the lead until he sees a cat. You see, Bud loves playing chase games and is happy to chase or be chased but these need to be with similar-minded dogs and not other animals. He also adores playing fetch. If you’re partial to throwing a few tennis balls and think you could give Bud a loving home, contact Battersea Old Windsor on 01784 494443.

No doubt Bud would like another day out – this time at Battersea’s Muddy Dog Challenge. This is an obstacle course where owners compete in a 2.5km or 5km run with their dogs. You can enter in a team, as a duo or on your own. Battersea asks each participating human to raise at least £100 sponsorship money. To help prepare for the challenge, Battersea suggests training plans and training tips. There are two Muddy Dog Challenge Days, firstly in Brockwell Park on May 7 and secondly in Windsor Great Park on May 21. Registration in advance is essential. Details from battersea. org.uk or 020 7627 9295. Spectators are welcome and there will be music and competitions in the event village.
