Ellie helping Relate to fund young people’s counselling by running marathon
RELATE London North West, based in Harrow, will be cheering on its very own runner in the Virgin Money London marathon.
Ellie Hayes will be raising funds for children’s counselling sessions, offered free by Relate London North West in Harrow and neighbouring boroughs.
Ellie worked for Relate until last summer and is now located in Kent.
“We are delighted to have Ellie running in this year’s London marathon” said Ewan Malcolm, chief executive at Relate LNW.
“It’s inspiring that one of our team agreed to train for this amazing event so she can help us provide support for local children.
“According to YoungMinds, one in three children in every classroom has a mental health disorder.
“Children face challenges such as parental separation, bullying, bereavement and peer pressure leading to them becoming depressed and anxious.
“Counselling can really help these young people to cope so they are able to deal with stress and difficult times and as a result are able to learn better and enjoy their childhood”
Ellie said: “I am really excited to be running in the London Marathon, it is definitely my most ambitious challenge so far.
“The reason I am raising money for Relate is because the work the charity does is so important.
“I know how difficult people find it to approach a service like Relate, to be open to coming to talk to someone about their problems.”
Relate aims to raise £2,000 to provide free counselling for young people in north-west London.
