Councillor’s capital run a fitting end to tough week
Runner’s London effort will be his seventh marathon in seven days
AFTER completing seven consecutive marathons in seven days in March, borough councillor Jagjit Singh is all set for the London Marathon, where he is aiming to raise £2,000 for the Mayor of Hillingdon’s Charity Appeal.
The London Marathon will mark a milestone in Cllr Singh’s running career as it will be his 200th marathon – the London Marathon was also his first event.
Inspired by his father, who came second in the 1954 India Marathon, the 56-year-old Yeading councillor has been running marathons all over the world since 2004 and has so far raised nearly £15,000 for charity.
Among the many charities who have benefited from his efforts are Cancer Research UK, GetKidsGoing!, which supports children with wheelchairs for sports, CLIC Sargent, who assist children affected by cancer, the White Lodge Centre, who assist disabled people, and Pingalwara, an Indianbased charity that provides shelter and food to people in need.
Cllr Singh completed the Enigma Quadzilla of four marathons in four days in February, raising just under £1,400 for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.
The Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr George Cooper, said: “Cllr Singh’s willpower is an example to us all of how helping others can

motivate us to go that extra mile.
“I am very pleased that he is putting all his efforts into fundraising for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal and will help us improve the lives of the local residents who are facing difficult challenges.”
There is also another reason that makes the 200th marathon special to Cllr Singh.
He said: “I am very proud to run it with my wife. The London Marathon will be her first, exactly as it was for me 12 years ago.
“We decided to compete together because we want to raise more funds for the mayor’s charities.”
