Early goal sends U15s on way to another cup

United U15s take trophy two weeks after Dutch triumph

Hot on the heels of their success in Holland two weeks ago, goals from Kayleigh Currivan and Katie Ackerman were enough to see off the challenge of underdogs Carshalton Athletic in a game played at Ryman League side Merstham’s ground.

Currivan settled early nerves with a typically predatory closerange finish, but it was a moment of magic from keeper Gracie Perkis just before the interval which proved pivotal to Denham’s triumph.

A glorious 20-yard volley appeared destined to be the equaliser for the Surrey side, only for Perkis to dive full length and somehow claw the effort to safety.

Inspired by her keeper’s heroics, Ackerman then settled a game of few clear-cut chances with a stunning half volley, laced in from fully 35 yards.

Denham’s triumphant squad consisted of Perkis, Gina Lee, Annie Walsh Kodi Spencer, Akerman, Charlotte Parrett, Reanna Isaacs, Julia Thurauf, Yasmin Garcia, Katie Riddington, Currivan and Jess Stickley.

The subs (all used) were Maddie Vilday, Alketa Rragami and Chloe Smith.

The ladies’ firsts, meanwhile, undertook their longest journey of the season for their final away trip to Lowestoft ladies, but the threehour trek proved worth every minute as they returned 3-1 winners. They needed a stirring second-half fight-back to take the points after trailing 1-0 at the break, an own goal putting them on level terms soon after the restart.

Lauren Cox completed the turnaround when she lobbed the onrushing home keeper, a trick repeated by Helen Capewell for the decisive third 20 minutes from time.

The U14s also had the winning feeling after Shania Foley’s brace set up a comfortable 3-0 win over second place Garston at The Den. Foley also pressurised the visitors into conceding an own goal in a player of the match performance, which leaves Denham level on points with their vanquished opponents and with a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Charlie Leigh Dixon’s hat-trick was enough to secure a 3-3 draw for the senior development squad at home to Clapham Reserves. DENHAM United Ladies U15s laid hands on more silverware this week after being crowned league cup winners.
