Green fingers at the ready in Hillingdon
Residents encouraged to get involved in In Bloom
KEEN gardeners are being invited to enter the annual Hillingdon in Bloom competition and prove their garden, hanging basket or business’s display is the best.
The contest was launched on April 12 by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr George Cooper and Cllr Jonathan Bianco, Cabinet Member for Finance, Property and Business Services.
Green fingered enthusiasts joined them during National Gardening Week at the Rural Activities Garden Centre (RAGC) on West Drayton Road. The sun shone on the visitors, as they admired the baby chicks, visited the nature pond and enjoyed cream teas among the flowerbeds.
Residents, businesses, schools and community groups can apply to take
The Uxbridge Gazette Series part in Hillingdon in Bloom, where they can compete for first prize in 11 categories, which include best hanging basket, front garden and balcony display.
Gardening entries must be submitted by June 30 and will be judged later in the summer. They will also contribute towards the borough’s submission into the Royal Horticultural Society run competition, London in Bloom.
Cllr Jonathan Bianco said: “This popular competition gives local people of all ages the opportunity to brighten up green spaces in the borough. Whether you are a novice or a keen gardener, anyone is welcome to enter and take part.
“So why not go down to the RAGC for some inspiration, I’d love to see everyone out digging and planting this spring.”
