Scouts parade for St George
RUISLIP, Eastcote and Northwood District Scouts celebrated St George’s Day with a gathering in Eastcote House Gardens.
Led by the Yiewsley and West Drayton brass band, the 500 plus Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Scouters with relatives and friends following made an impressive sight as they went through Eastcote into the Gardens on Sunday April 24.
MC Peter Smallwood ran some quizzes relating to the Queen’s 90th Birthday, before handing over to district commissioner, Stephen Plume who made many presentations and awards and recalled those who had received theirs earlier.
Three young people were absent on the day – Edd Greer, James Laszcz and James Nicholas – who were taking part in a special St George’s Day parade at Windsor, having received their Queen’s Scout Award within the past year.
Many more awards were presented and two pieces by William Shakespeare were beautifully read out which reflected St George and England, the national anthem was sung and each group renewed the promise as is usual every year.
