What sort of a troll would smash a fairytale village?
Sadness at second attack on enchanting garden made for free
A MAGICAL fairy garden enjoyed by children in Ruislip and created for free by a devoted resident, has been completely destroyed by vandals.
The Ruislip Fairy Village, which has its own Facebook page, is the brainchild of Ellie Travis, who painstakingly crafts and paints her creation, located just outside Ruislip woods, for hours, so the community can enjoy it.
Vandals had strewn the contents of the village into the nearby River Pinn on Saturday May 7, much to the dismay of the daily passers-by.
One dog walker said: “I’m so sad to see it go. It makes all the kids in the area smile.”
Ms Travis was ‘in shock’ when she found the state of the village.
She said: “It was completely destroyed.
“There were things in the river and all over the place. A sign that took me like four hours to paint is missing. It’s so sad – it’s awful for me as I put a lot of work into what I do, but for the children to come across it, I can’t imagine how upsetting it would be.”
Ms Travis was the secret creator of the display set up in December last year, and would answer letters left by children as the ‘Ruislip Fairy’, until she had to out herself when the village was first vandalised in February.
Despite this setback, the 45-year-old, who is unable to work due to fibromyalgia, chondritis, and chronic fatigue, rebuilt the village and invited local children to enjoy an Easter egg hunt in the woods.
She said: “After I did the re-installation and the egg hunt as a celebration – I was exhausted from it for weeks after but this is just really what make me happy. It’s a lovely community place.
“I feel like I’m earning my benefits this way and there’s lots of reasons why I do it – I know when people see my work I mattered to someone on that day.
“It’s full of wonder and magic and it’s just for everyone to enjoy so it’s heartbreaking when people destroy it.”
The vandalism is thought to have occurred between 10am and 12pm on Saturday. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting reference number 29921.
