Hillingdon not overawed by tough sides
HILLINGDON Swimming Club cemented its place among the nation’s elite swimming clubs at the National Arena League finals in Cardiff
The borough had earned the right to represent London when they won the regional finals in December.
Competition was going to be strong with eight Olympians present in the pool, but Hillingdon were not overawed.
Ceara Barber stepped up an age group, but still delivered victory in the 100m backstroke while also winning the most improved award for her own age group.
LouLou Vos and Alfie Collins also made strong contributions in the 200m individual medley where they were both up against Olympians.
Team-mate Mitchell Adams was also charged with the task of taking on a double world champion in James Guy in the 100m fly. Sean Patrick McGowan and Amy Grimshaw also produced strong performances in their individual races.
Hillingdon eventually finished ninth overall with Guildford City winning the finals by a single point to become champions. Alongside them in the Welsh capital were teams from all over the country, including Plymouth, Liverpool, Peterborough and Derby.
